Six years ago, co-founders Marcus Samuelsson and Herb Karlitz launched Harlem EatUp! to shine a spotlight on the iconic Harlem community, its small businesses and restaurants. In lieu of the 6th year festival, Harlem EatUp! has created a TV special to promote Harlem businesses and support the Harlem community which has been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Donations will benefit non-profits which fight food insecurity and serve Harlem, its residents in need, its businesses and the City of New York: Citymeals, World Central Kitchen’s Restaurants for the People in the metro NY region, Harlem Park to Park, and Uptown Grand Central.

About

Harlem Serves Up! will provide urgent funds to non-profit organizations which serve Harlem, its residents in need, its BIPOC and minority-led businesses and the city of New York: Citymeals, World Central Kitchen’s Restaurants for the People in the metro NY region, Harlem Park to Park, and Uptown Grand Central.

Citymeals on Wheels
Citymeals on Wheels (citymeals.org) provides a continuous lifeline of nourishing meals and vital companionship to New York City’s homebound elderly. Working in partnership with community-based organizations and senior centers, Citymeals prepares and delivers over 2 million weekend, holiday and emergency meals for more than 18,000 of our frail aged neighbors each year. Last year, over 21,000 volunteers gave nearly 68,000 hours of their time. Since its founding in 1981, Citymeals has relied on the generosity of its Board of Directors, the City of New York, sponsors and other designated gifts to cover administrative costs. This ensures that 100% of all public donations will be used entirely for the preparation and delivery of meals.

World Central Kitchen
World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a team of food first responders, mobilizing with the urgency of now to get meals to those who need them most. They’re activating hundreds of restaurants and kitchens to feed marginalized and vulnerable communities and our brave medical professionals on the front lines, in order to make a meaningful impact in the fight to keep everyone fed, and to support the distressed restaurant industry. WCK knows that a nourishing meal in a time of crisis is so much more than a plate of food---it's hope, it's dignity, it's a sign that someone cares about you and that you are not alone.

Harlem Park to Park
Harlem Park to Park (HP2P) is a social enterprise representing 250+ entrepreneurs committed to cultural preservation, small business and economic development in Central Harlem, NYC’s premiere cultural, dining, shopping, lifestyle and nightlife hubnorth of 110th Street. The membership of Harlem Park to Park is comprised of premiere businesses located within the geographic area of Central Park North to 145th Street and Morningside Park to Marcus Garvey Park. HP2P produces strategic marketing and economic development initiatives designed to promote and ensure the sustainability of its member businesses and celebrate the neighborhood’s historic CHARM.

Uptown Grand Central
Uptown Grand Central is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming East 125th Street into a thriving corridor by delivering programs that put advocacy into action.Since 2013, when we got our start as the New Harlem East Merchants Association (NHEMA), we have brightened the community via programs that include organizing our small businesses; hiring local job trainees to clean our streets; beautifying the commercial corridor with public art, plantings and holiday lights; sponsoring neighborhood events including Party On Park; and adopting the space adjacent to the Harlem-125th Street Metro-North station as a community plaza that features a year-round farmers market, exercise classes, live music and more.

So much of Project Bento's desire to create a simple, effective way to provide urgent relief is due to the generosity of our founding organizers, donors and sponsors, as a result of their personal and financial commitment, all Project Bento/Harlem Serves Up Campaign operating costs and Platform Fees, typically 10-20%, are provided by our direct donors and matching funds sponsors so that 100% of all Public Donations on projectbento.org are used to help lives.
